Some collections begin with a colour palette or a botanical sketch. Highland Mist began with a feeling — the particular stillness of a Scottish loch at dawn, when the water is glass and the hills dissolve into cloud.
We had wanted to photograph this collection in its natural setting for months, and when a forecast promised low-hanging mist over Loch Lomond in late January, we packed the car before sunrise and drove north from Glasgow.
The Vision
Highland Mist is a suite built around the Scottish landscape at its most atmospheric. The palette draws from the muted tones of a winter morning: soft heather, weathered stone, and a blue-grey that shifts like the water itself. Every element is hand-painted in watercolour, from the thistle motifs on the invitation to the delicate mountain silhouette that lines the envelope.
We wanted the shoot to reflect that same quietness — no grand staging, no elaborate tablescapes. Just the stationery, the landscape, and the mist.
On the Bonnie Banks
We arrived at the lochside as the first light broke through. The mist was perfect — thick enough to soften every edge, thin enough to let the morning glow through. We laid the suite out on weathered timber and lichen-covered stone, letting the textures of the Trossachs do what no studio backdrop ever could.
The invitation suite includes a folded invitation with a hand-torn deckled edge, a reply card, a detail insert with a watercolour map of the Highlands, and a calligraphed envelope in our house style. Each piece was printed on our 600gsm cotton rag stock in two passes — a muted heather for the botanical illustrations and a deep slate for the typography.
There is something quietly magical about seeing stationery in the place that inspired it. The colours matched the hillside so closely that the cards almost disappeared into the landscape, as though they had always belonged there.
Bringing Highland Mist to Your Day
Highland Mist is available as a fully bespoke suite, beginning at £12 per invitation. We can adapt the palette to suit your venue — whether you are marrying in a Highland castle, a lochside bothy, or a Glasgow courtyard draped in fairy lights. The watercolour illustrations can be tailored to feature your own wedding flowers, your venue, or a landscape that holds meaning for you both.
If the mist and the heather speak to you, we would love to hear your story. Drop us a line through our enquiry form, or book a studio visit to see the suite in person. We will have the kettle on.
